YORKSHIRE GRASSTRACK SUNDAY 25TH APRIL 2010 RESULTS: Alex Coleston 3rd place Auto Cadets Andrew Crane 6th place MX65 Nic Cosby 7th place MX85 Josh Oates 4th place MX85 (AND RIDER OF THE DAY) Daniel Van Der Hoeven 1st place MX65 and MX85
Congratulations to all the riders who competed yesterday at Yorkshire Grasstrack Club and we would like to take the opportunity to thank Adrian Brown (Chairman of Yorkshire Grasstrack and fellow Club Coach) for agreeing to be part of our project of introducing youth to the sport Yes, unfortunately it was dampened literally by the event being cancelled but we managed to complete three out of the six races before the rain came. All four riders had a lot of information to take in, but they all coped extremely well with the situation and took on board all the advice which was given to them. With the help of Daniel Van Der Hoeven as Team Captain and Danny Boyle as mentor, with their vast array of knowledge and experience reassured and gave the riders the benefit of their past experiences on track. Alex Coleston was first out in the Auto Cadets and slotted quite comfortably into third place. Racing against some very experienced riders and race prepared machines Alex started to increase his pace to maintain third place in his second and third race. An excellent first time out result which we hope he will build on in future events. Andrew Crane admitted that he was very nervous but he overcame his nerves and this became quite apparent with his confidence improving with each race. He held his position middle field for his first and second race. The third race saw something which you could only liken to an experience racer Andrew pre-empted the start perfectly headed up to first bend in 2nd place. He maintained this position up until he slightly overcooked it on 2nd bend of third lap being thrown from his machine, but uninjured managed to remount, start his machine and carry on but by this time the race leader had crossed the line. The day held several personal challenges for Andrew and he should be commended for his achievement. Nic and Josh entered a very competitive class of experienced riders. The starts were challenging. Nic stood his ground when confronted with a rider who had taken his gate. It was good to see that he had taken on board the advice given about start positions! Like Alex in the Autos, Nic settled into the middle field being blocked at each attempt to gain ground on the other competitors. His second race came to sudden end when his exhaust left company with his machine but was retrieved and it was all hands on deck to make repairs in time for his next race. Getting more familiar with starting techniques, Nic made his best start off the line in his third race and found himself at one point sandwiched into between two other riders coming off the line together fighting for position. It seems like nothing was going to stop Nic and it was good to see that he maintained his composure and with balance and skill managed to keep in contact with his machine getting through the narrowest of gaps. An enthusiastic and focused rider and will definitely give other riders a run for their money given the opportunity. Josh has shown a natural ability on his 85cc and this could be seen on Sunday. Quietly confident, Josh came off the line every time with the other riders, coming to first bend in quite a close knit group, only droping a few places on the race leader . He was consistent in his pace and showed true form - frustratedly attempting at every opportunity to gain position. Josh stood out and was duly noticed by club officials who decided to award him with Rider of the Day A name to watch out for ...... Our team captain, Daniel Van Der Hoeven is as predictable as they come exceptional in style and experience and had no problem in setting the pace in both the 65MX and 85MXclass. First off the line extended his lead in each race showing the natural talent he has gained through years of racing on grass, even giving his fellow competitors on two occasions a half a lap start! Another good result for Daniel. Well done.
